HISTORY OF BARANGAY TACDOG

Tacdog is a barangay in the municipality of Siquijor, located in the province of Siquijor, Philippines. As of the 2020 Census, it has a population of 565 residents. The name “Tacdog” is derived from the Cebuano phrase meaning “cats and dogs.”

Siquijor, the municipality to which Tacdog belongs, was established as a municipality in 1794, coinciding with the establishment of its parish. Tacdog is situated at approximately 9.2108°N latitude and 123.5180°E longitude, with an estimated elevation of 29.4 meters (96.5 feet) above sea level.

While specific historical records about Tacdog are limited, its development is intertwined with the broader history of Siquijor municipality and the province. The island of Siquijor was known to early Spanish explorers as “Isla del Fuego” or “Island of Fire” due to the glow of fireflies that illuminated its molave trees.

Today, Tacdog remains a small yet integral part of the Siquijor community, contributing to the province’s rich cultural tapestry.
